CV & Interview

To facilitate the journey towards your dream job smoother and less challenging

The Story of my arduous Job-seeking journey

In 2015, I first went to Ho Chi Minh City to seek employment, just 5 days after receiving my degree from the National Economics University.

The reason I pursued Economics was because back then, I followed the crowd: around 80% of my classmates registered for economics, finance, or banking - all fields deemed "hot" and offering diverse job opportunities, according to the grapevine. And later, the decision to HCMC also came from hearsay: Saigon offers plenty of job opportunities and it's easier to find work there.

However, my job-seeking journey in the early years after graduation didn't unfold as expected:

I realized that along with the idea that "an economics degree opens up many career paths" came the uncertainty of not knowing which path was right for me. So, for 3 months after graduation, I started sending my CV to hundreds of companies in various industries, only to wait in vain. Every job demanded experienced employees, but where could a fresh graduate like me find experience?

Then there were the days of wandering around for interviews here and there, all ending in failure. I remember a particularly sad and somewhat funny memory: I went for an interview on National Independence Day (September 2nd), frantically navigating the streets (as I was new to Saigon) and rushing to arrive on time. Suddenly, I was flagged down by a traffic policeman and fined 300.000 VND for a lane violation. At that moment, I burst into tears, experiencing a pitiful combination of events: attending an interview on a public holiday, being late, getting lost, and then getting fined. Luckily, the policeman (after collecting the fine) kindly showed me the way to the interview location very enthusiastically :)

To this day, I still keep a folder on my old laptop as a memento of that time, named "The Era of Arduous Job Seeking," and looking back, I still feel a mix of indescribable emotions.
